Education & Leadership

So much of what we learn has to do with the opportunities we're given. At the Y, we want young people to explore their possibilities and think big!

Home School Gym & Swim

Kids learn fitness, movement and sports skills through games, activities and fun! As a solid home school physical education program, we focus on helping children develop strong muscles, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. But more importantly, it's FUN!

For more information about our Homeschool programs, check out our program guide or contact the Kirk Family YMCA at 540-342-9622 or the Salem Family YMCA at 540-387-9622.

Lifeguard Training

Ever wanted to learn the skills to save a life? With our YMCA and American Red Cross lifeguard certification courses you can do just that. Participants will learn lifeguarding skills, how to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, how to use an AED, and necessary first-aid skills. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to lifeguard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary.

Training and Leadership

Leader Clubs help develop youth ages 12 to 18 as leaders while fostering a culture of service. With adult advisors, teens have role models and mentors who can have a positive impact on their lives as they grow in their desire and ability to be a positive force in the community.
